The LIFE Podcast
Longevity Insights For Everyone

Episodes
Episode 4
Why 10 Years Is Not Enough: The Lifetime Approach to Heart Disease Prevention
Standard cardiovascular risk calculators only look ten years ahead, which means younger people, women, and those with a strong family history routinely fall through the gaps. Dr Hugh Coyne and Dr Lucy Hooper explain what a lifetime risk approach changes, how long-term LDL exposure is now being used as a clinical tool, and what that means for decisions you can make today.
Episode 3
The Cholesterol Test Your Doctor Probably Hasn’t Ordered Yet: ApoB Explained
ApoB is now considered the most accurate blood marker for cardiovascular risk, yet most standard cholesterol panels don’t include it. In this episode, Dr Lucy Hooper and Dr Hugh Coyne explain what ApoB actually measures, why one in five people get a misleading result from a standard lipid test, and what to do if your number comes back high.
Episode 2
Why Muscle Is the Most Under-Prescribed Medicine
Muscle mass and strength are among the strongest predictors of long-term survival, yet resistance training remains almost entirely absent from clinical guidance. Dr Hugh Coyne and Dr Lucy Hooper go through the evidence across nearly two million people, explain the exact dose that starts to reduce mortality risk, and lay out the practical steps for anyone starting from zero.
Episode 1
Lipoprotein(a): The Hidden Heart Risk 1 in 5 People Have
Most people with high Lp(a) have completely normal cholesterol results, which is why it goes undetected in the vast majority of those affected. Dr Hugh Coyne and Dr Lucy Hooper explain why this largely genetic risk factor is absent from standard testing, what it does to your arteries over time, and why a single blood test could be the most important cardiovascular check you ever have.
