Our Story
Coyne Medical is a private GP-led clinic in Fulham, London. We were founded in 2016 by husband and wife Dr Hugh Coyne and Dr Lucy Hooper, with one intention: to create the kind of medical care we would want for our own families. This page tells that story.
A family practice, reimagined

Coyne Medical began with a simple but demanding ambition: to offer patients the kind of care Hugh and Lucy would want for their own parents, children, and each other. That means same-day appointments when something is worrying you, a doctor who knows your history, and leaving every consultation with clarity about your diagnosis, your plan, and exactly what to do next.
The clinic has grown to more than 15,000 patients and 11,000 GP consultations a year, with a team of GPs who share that standard. As Dr Theresa, who has been at the practice for over three years, puts it: she would bring any member of her own family here without hesitation and has.

The test that changed everything
When Lucy began building the genetics programme at Coyne Medical, she took the test herself. The result was not what she expected.
Lucy did not fit the standard profile for high-risk genetic testing. No obvious family history, no clinical red flags. But she believed that if she was going to recommend this test to patients, she should take it herself. The result showed she carried a high-risk inherited cancer gene mutation, a finding that led, after careful consideration, to a risk-reducing mastectomy that has reduced her breast cancer risk by more than 95%.
Hugh learned the news after work. His response was not fear but relief: they had found out in time to do something about it.

Whole body MRI can detect tumours at millimetre scale, years before symptoms appear. Lipoprotein(a) testing can identify cardiovascular risk that standard cholesterol panels miss. Genetic screening can reveal inherited cancer risk decades before a diagnosis. These are not marginal improvements. They are, as Hugh describes them, game changers in preventive medicine.
