Why people choose Ultimate
People rarely book the Ultimate screening because they feel unwell. More often, something has made them stop and think: a friend diagnosed at the same age, a parent’s illness, or a family history they have never properly explored.
What they want is not a folder of numbers. It is a doctor who has taken the time to understand their history, review every result alongside their imaging and family background, and explain what it all means. You leave knowing where you stand, what matters now, and what needs watching over time.
That is what we mean by high tech, high touch, high trust.
What’s included
Each part of the screening is chosen to answer a different question about your current health, inherited risk and future priorities.
Your assessment measures over 100 biomarkers across your blood, urine, body composition and cardiovascular tests, going considerably further than a standard NHS health check. Your GP will go through every result with you at your results consultation.
Our blood panel covers over 100 biomarkers across the key areas of health, going considerably further than a standard NHS health check or occupational health screen. Your GP will go through every result with you at your follow-up consultation.
Core panel, included in all screenings:
Full haematology profile
Kidney function
Liver function
Calcium and bone profile
Iron status
Thyroid function
Vitamin D
Advanced lipid analysis including Lipoprotein (a)
Diabetes screening including glucose and HbA1c
Urine analysis
Bowel cancer screen
PSA test (male)
Cervical screening (female)
Additional markers included in the Complete and Ultimate screenings:
Apolipoprotein B
Apolipoprotein A1
High sensitivity C-reactive protein
Fasting insulin
Magnesium
Female hormones: FSH, LH, oestradiol, prolactin
Male hormones: testosterone, SHBG
Additional markers in Ultimate: vitamin B12, folate
Alongside your imaging and genetic testing, your screening includes established cancer screening tests, chosen according to your age, sex and history. A bowel cancer screening test (FIT) looks for tiny amounts of blood in a stool sample, which can be an early sign of bowel cancer or pre-cancerous polyps. Men are offered a PSA blood test after discussing its benefits and limitations with their GP, since a raised result can have causes other than cancer. Women who are due are offered cervical screening, which tests for high-risk HPV, the virus behind most cervical cancers.
Women having the Ultimate screening also have a mammogram and a breast ultrasound, carried out together at a specialist breast imaging centre in London. The two work together: mammography is the standard screening test for breast cancer, and ultrasound adds detail in dense breast tissue, where a mammogram alone can miss changes.
Your whole-body MRI is conducted at a specialist imaging centre in central London, chosen for its expertise in screening MRI and state-of-the-art 3T technology. The scan covers over 2,000 images from head to pelvis, checking your brain, neck, chest, abdomen, and pelvis, including organs such as your liver, pancreas, bladder, kidneys, gall bladder, and thyroid gland. Every scan is reviewed by two UK radiology consultants to ensure you receive the most accurate report possible.
The scan takes up to 90 minutes. The environment is designed to help you feel at ease, with sound and lighting chosen to help you relax, and the team on hand to talk you through every step. You can take a break if you need one.
Whole body MRI can find cancers and other abnormalities before symptoms appear. In published studies, between 1 and 2 percent of people screened are found to have a previously unknown cancer, and around one in three scans shows a minor finding that may need further testing or monitoring. Your GP will talk you through anything found at your results consultation.
As part of your whole body MRI, we measure your body composition in detail, including muscle mass, body fat percentage, visceral fat around your internal organs, and liver fat. These measurements are considerably more precise than bioimpedance analysis and give your GP a clear picture of your metabolic health and your risk of conditions including type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Visceral fat and liver fat in particular are among the strongest indicators of long-term metabolic risk and are not captured by standard weight or BMI measurements.
Your VO2 max test is conducted at Marylebone Health Group, a short walk from the MRI centre, and can be booked on the same day as your MRI or at a separate time. VO2max, your maximum oxygen uptake, it is one of the strongest predictors of long-term health and longevity, and measures your cardiovascular fitness more accurately than any wearable device.
Following your test, you will receive a personalised exercise prescription based on your individual results, including specific heart rate and power zones for both zone 2 and high-intensity training. This is not a generic fitness plan. It is a precise, data-driven prescription built around your physiology.
Our cardiovascular screening goes considerably beyond a standard cholesterol check, using the most clinically accurate markers available to assess your individual risk.
Resting electrocardiogram
Cardiovascular risk assessment, including 10-year and lifetime risk
Lipid analysis, including HDL Cholesterol and LDL Cholesterol
Advanced lipid analysis, including Lipoprotein (a) and Apolipoprotein B.
Knowing your Lipoprotein(a) and Apolipoprotein B levels gives a far more accurate picture of cardiovascular risk than standard cholesterol testing alone and can significantly change the clinical picture for people who appear low-risk on a basic panel.
This panel screens for variants in 54 genes associated with an increased inherited risk of cancer, including genes linked to bowel, stomach and pancreatic cancers, and to kidney, breast, ovarian, prostate, skin and thyroid cancers. Testing is carried out by an accredited specialist genetics laboratory, and results are typically returned within four weeks.
Genes tested: APC, ATM, AXIN2, BAP1, BARD1, BMPR1A, BRCA1, BRCA2, BRIP1, CDC73, CDH1, CDKN2A, CHEK2, DICER1, EPCAM, FH, FLCN, KIT, MAX, MEN1, MET, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, MUTYH, NBN, NF1, NF2, PALB2, PDGFRA, PMS2, POLD1, POLE, PTCH1, PTEN, RAD51C, RAD51D, RB1, RET, SDHA, SDHAF2, SDHB, SDHC, SDHD, SMAD4, SMARCA4, SMARCB1, STK11, TMEM127, TP53, TSC1, TSC2, VHL, WT1
Your genes affect how your body processes many common medicines. Some people break a medicine down too quickly for it to work well, and others too slowly, which raises the risk of side effects. This 21-gene panel looks at those differences for a wide range of medicines, including pain relief, anaesthetics, blood thinners, antidepressants and other psychiatric medicines, chemotherapy and statins.
Your results come as a written personalised report that you keep and can share with any doctor who prescribes for you, including specialists, anaesthetists and your own GP. Since your genes do not change, the report stays relevant for life, even if you take no regular medication now.
Results are typically returned within four weeks. Your GP will contact you sooner if anything needs prompt attention, and otherwise will go through the report with you at your three-month review
Genes tested: ABCG2, CACNA1S, CYP2B6, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, CYP2D6, CYP3A4, CYP3A5, CYP4F2, DPYD, G6PD, HLA-A, HLA-B, IFNL4, MT-RNR1, NUDT15, RYR1, SLCO1B1, TPMT, UGT1A1, VKORC1
A clinical saliva assessment measuring six markers connected to oral and systemic health. The links between periodontal inflammation and cardiovascular disease, metabolic risk, and systemic inflammation are well evidenced, but the mouth is rarely included in a medical health screen. This is not a replacement for your dentist. It is an additional layer of clinical insight, collected during your GP assessment, that allows us to build a more complete picture of your health.
At the end of your results review, your GP will build a personalised prevention plan based on what your results actually show. This covers your cardiovascular risk, any relevant cancer screening recommendations, nutrition, exercise, and any further investigations your doctor thinks would be worthwhile. You leave with a clear set of priorities, written specifically for you, not a generic lifestyle leaflet.
Once all your results are ready, you will meet with your GP for a 60-minute results and prevention plan consultation. Your doctor will go through every result in detail, explain what each finding means for your long-term health, and build your personalised prevention plan. This consultation can be done in person at our Fulham clinic, by video, or by telephone.
Your pharmacogenomics results are typically returned separately, within four weeks. Where these need prompt discussion your GP will be in touch. Otherwise they will be reviewed at your 3-month follow-up or at any time that suits you.
Your 3-month follow-up review is included in the Ultimate package. This is an opportunity to check in on how you are getting on with your prevention plan, review any outstanding results, and discuss any changes to your health since your screening. It can be done in person, by video, or by telephone.
Ultimate Health Screening: £7,950 on weekdays, £8,000 on Saturdays.
Your 90-minute GP assessment, whole body MRI, VO2 max testing, genetic cancer screening, pharmacogenomics, oral health screen, 60-minute results consultation and three-month follow-up review are all included. There are no hidden costs.

How Your Screening Works
Step One
GP assessment and sample collection
A 90-minute consultation at our Fulham clinic. Your GP takes your full medical and family history, examines you, and collects your blood, urine and oral health samples.
Step Two
Whole-body MRI and VO2max testing
Your whole body MRI and VO2 max test take place at specialist centres in W1, near Bond Street, on the same day or separate days. Women also have a mammogram and breast ultrasound at a specialist breast imaging centre.
Step Three
Results review and your prevention plan
A 60-minute consultation with your GP to go through every result and build your personalised prevention plan. Your genetic and pharmacogenomics results follow within four weeks.
Step Four
Your 3-month review and ongoing care
Your GP sees you again at three months to review your progress and go through your genetic results. After that, we are here for follow-up tests, referrals and your next annual check.
Why Ultimate Is Different
One GP team, start to finish
Your screening is led by a GP, not a technician. Your GP reviews your results, imaging and family history together, builds your prevention plan and sees you again at three months, with the same team here in the years after.
Your inherited risk, not just your current health
We test 54 genes linked to inherited cancer risk and 21 genes that affect how you respond to medicines. Alongside lipoprotein(a) and apolipoprotein B, which many private health checks do not include, this shows risks that no scan or standard blood test can.
Oral health as a window to systemic risk
Your oral health screen measures six markers linked to cardiovascular disease, inflammation and metabolic risk. Coyne Medical is the first GP clinic in the UK to offer it.
A plan, not just a printout
We bring every result together, explain what matters in plain language, and give you a prioritised prevention plan written specifically for you.
What Our Patients Say
Add multi-cancer early detection
Ultimate already includes genetic testing for inherited cancer risk. The one cancer test it doesn’t include is the multi-cancer early detection blood test, which looks for signals shared by many types of cancer, including several with no national screening programme. It is designed to be used alongside routine screening, not in place of it.

Built by doctors who use it themselves
Ultimate reflects the way Dr Hugh Coyne and Dr Lucy Hooper believe preventive medicine should work: advanced diagnostics, careful clinical interpretation, and one GP team responsible for joining the dots. Dr Lucy Hooper found her own inherited cancer gene variant while building our genetics service. Their work in preventive medicine and cancer genetics has been covered by the The Independent and The Times.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most of our patients feel well when they come to us. Feeling well tells you very little about what is happening underneath, because the changes that matter most build over years without symptoms. Raised lipoprotein(a), visceral and liver fat, early metabolic change and inherited genetic variants are all invisible to how you feel, and most are not picked up by a standard health check. For most patients the outcome is reassurance backed by real data. For a small number, we find something at a point where it is easier to treat.
Ultimate includes everything in Complete, then adds tests that are only available in Ultimate: a 54 gene inherited cancer risk panel, a 21 gene pharmacogenomics report and an oral health screen, along with vitamin B12, folate and a review with your GP at three months. Women also have a mammogram and breast ultrasound. The genetic tests show risks that no scan or blood test can, and you only need them once, since your genes do not change. If cancer runs in your family, or you want to understand your inherited risk as well as your current health, Ultimate is the right choice.
We recommend fasting for at least eight hours before your assessment so your blood results are as accurate as possible. Water is fine to drink, and you should continue to take any regular medication as normal, including blood pressure tablets and other daily prescriptions. If fasting is difficult for any reason, let your doctor know at the start of your appointment so your results can be interpreted with that in mind. We will confirm all preparation instructions when you book.
MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves rather than X-rays, so there is no radiation exposure, and no injection or contrast dye is needed. It is not suitable for everyone: some pacemakers, implants and metal fragments are not safe in an MRI scanner, and the imaging centre will check this with you before your scan. The scanner is noisy and some people find the space confined, so you will be given ear protection, and you can take a break at any point. If you are anxious about enclosed spaces, let us know when you book.
Ultimate includes a mammogram and breast ultrasound for women, carried out together at a specialist breast imaging centre in London. Ultrasound adds detail in dense breast tissue, where a mammogram alone can miss changes. The NHS breast screening programme invites women every three years from the age of 50, and we advocate annual mammograms from 40 for women at average risk. Your GP will advise on how often to repeat breast screening after your Ultimate screening, based on your results and family history.
Your GP assessment takes place at our Fulham clinic, and your whole body MRI and VO2 max test at specialist centres in W1, near Bond Street, which can be booked on the same day as each other. Women also have a mammogram and breast ultrasound at a specialist breast imaging centre. For most patients, we recommend spreading appointments across a few days. Occasionally your blood results or history mean we want to add a further test, such as a bone density scan or a CT coronary calcium score, and a little flexibility makes this easier to arrange. For international patients travelling to London, we can arrange everything on the same day or consecutive days, with a short call with your GP beforehand to plan it.
If your results show anything that needs further investigation, your GP will explain what it means, how certain it is, and what the options are. Many findings need only monitoring or a repeat test, and whole body MRI in particular can find minor changes that turn out to be harmless but need a follow-up scan to confirm. Where specialist care is needed, we refer you directly to consultants and imaging centres across London and stay involved in your care. You will not be left to interpret a result on your own.
Yes. We can arrange back-to-back assessments on the same day or on separate days. Contact us at reception@coynemedical.com to arrange this.
Health screening is not usually covered by standard private medical insurance, since it is preventive rather than treatment. Some corporate and executive benefit packages do include cover, so check directly with your insurer. We can provide a detailed receipt for any claim.
Most blood results are returned within five to seven working days, and MRI reports typically within five working days. We will book your 60-minute results consultation once these are ready. Your inherited cancer risk panel and pharmacogenomics results take around four weeks, and your GP will go through them with you at your three-month review. If anything needs prompt attention, your GP will contact you sooner.
In the UK, insurers follow the Code on Genetic Testing and Insurance, agreed between the government and the Association of British Insurers. Under the code, insurers cannot ask you to take a predictive genetic test, and cannot ask for or use the results of one. The only exception is life insurance over £500,000 where you have had a predictive test for Huntington’s disease, which is not part of this panel. Your GP can talk this through with you before you decide.
Your three-month review is included, and after that the same GP team is here for follow-up tests, referrals and ongoing care. Many patients return for screening each year, which shows how their results change over time without repeating the genetic tests.
