Preparing for Your At-Home Bowel Cancer Screening

What to Do Before Your Test

You don’t need to take any special precautions or diet before your test.

📌 Once your kit arrives, follow these step-by-step instructions to collect your sample correctly:

What this test does NOT do:
🚫 It does not diagnose cancer. Any positive results will need to have further checks such as a colonoscopy. 
🚫 It does not guarantee whether or not you will develop cancer. If you have any symptoms of concern you should still consult a GP. Even after a negative bowel cancer screening.

How the Testing Process Works

📦 Step 1: Receive Your At-Home Test Kit

  • A bowel cancer screening kit will be sent to your address within the next 3 days.
  • Please contact us if you don’t receive a kit.
  • Important: follow the instructions inside carefully.
  • Don’t forget to complete the sticky label with your name and date of birth, and place it on the sample tube.

📮 Step 2: Return Your Sample

  • Securely package your sample.
  • Send it back using the prepaid return packaging provided.

📝 Step 3: Receive Your Results & Follow-Up Consultation

  • Results usually take 5 working days.
  • You will have receive a report from our doctors by email with advice on how to reduce your risk of bowel cancer and advice on screening.
  • If a positive result is found, we will guide you on recommended screenings, lifestyle changes, and family risk management.

What Happens If You Get a Positive Result?

If your bowel cancer screening is positive:
✔️ You will be offered a free follow-up consultation with a Coyne Medical GP to discuss next steps. 
✔️ We can help with advice and how to be referred for private or NHS care. 
✔️ We can arrange a private referral using your private medical insurance.
